Pre-natal check ups should be arranged prior to your planned pregnancy. There may be common infections in the mother that could be transmitted to the fetus. Moreover, some genetic conditions, such as thalassaemia, can be detected through pre-natal check ups. Your pregnancy should be planned ahead, preparing your body and mind for the change and stress that may come along with the pregnancy. Pre-natal check ups are intended to have a comprehensive assessment of the mother's body, in prevention of conditions that may arise during pregnancy.
